Stories Behind Old Photographs
(Borneo Edition)

CANVAS ART is excited to launch an exhibition titled “Stories Behind Old Photographs (Borneo Edition)” at Charlie’s Cafe, supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC). In conjunction with Malaysia Day, this exhibition aims to highlight 30 photo stories from the Borneo community.

Following the success of the “Stories Behind Old Photographs” exhibition in January 2023 and “The Rattan Exhibition with the Ukit/Bhuket Community" in September 2023, CANVAS ART is back to amplify the voices of marginalised communities of Sabah and Sarawak from many walks of life through restored photographs.

The exhibition will run from 13 September to 7 October and will showcase 30 restored photographs and stories from Sabah and Sarawak respectively. The exhibition is open from 11.00am to 3.00pm, and 6.00pm to 9.00pm daily, except for Sundays.

Visitors can also expect various sharing sessions and workshops every Saturday at Charlie’s Cafe on 21 September, 28 September, and 5 October. The schedule will be shared on Canvas Art’s Instagram. So, bring along your friends and family and come join us at the “Stories Behind Old Photographs (Borneo Edition)” exhibition. This is an event you don’t want to miss!

"Personally, I think that in Borneo, many people lack proper documentation of our past and history. With this project, I hope that our young generation in Borneo and outside of Borneo will appreciate and learn more about the stories within our community here."
